When you can’t hit the reset button, do this…

reset button title

Blank slates.

Reset buttons.

Some days I wish that I could use all of those.

Life is messy.

People are messy.

I’m messy.

Welcome to the mess.

If you’re anything like me, your mess is a mix of poor decisions, hurtful words, negative thoughts, ignorance, fear, pride, and bad assumptions.

This is the stuff we live with every day…some of it’s self-inflicted and some of it’s the emotional shrapnel of someone else’s mess.

The bad news is that the mess doesn’t go away.  There is no reset button to push until Jesus comes back and pushes it Himself.

The good news is that you have a choice how you live in the mess.  And, that choice depends on whether or not you are willing to start your day by doing this…

Getting dressed.

Getting dressed is a habit that most of us having gotten pretty good at.  We’ve done it every day since we were big enough to pull up our own pants.

But, I’m not talking about that kind of getting dressed…

I’m talking about the habit of getting dressed spiritually.

I’m talking about putting on things like compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience, and love…every day.

Imagine a world where everyone did that.

(Or, at least imagine a world where all the Christians did that…)

This world will be a mess until Jesus comes back, but we can do our part to make it less messy simply by choosing to get dressed every day.

Choose to put on compassion.

Choose to put on kindness.

Choose to put on humility.

Choose to put on gentleness.

Choose to put on patience.

Choose to put on love.

And see how much of the mess goes away…

12 Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. 13 Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. 14 And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.

Colossians 3:12-14 (NIV)
