What a shark attack taught me about my faith

shark attack title

The headline said, “Pro surfer survives shark attack in South Africa.”

Sounded interesting so I clicked on the article.

I think sharks are a lot like lions…

Especially when they stalk and attack their prey.

So, back to the article…

After the attack, the surfer was interviewed, and he said…

“All of the sudden, I just had this instinct that something was behind me.”

He had “this instinct.”

All of the hours in the water.

All of the time spent practicing.

All of his life as a surfer had unknowingly prepared him for this moment.

And his instinct kicked in and probably saved his life.

The Bible says that the devil is like a lion…

A lion who is on the move, prowling around, looking for someone to devour.

Kind of like that shark.

Question is…will you be ready when he attacks?

Will your instinct kick in when you need it the most?

Like the surfer, the instinct doesn’t just happen.

The instinct comes with time…

Time with God.

The more time you spend practicing the presence of God, the better off you’ll be when the next attack comes.

So, watch out for the lion…

Stay alert, stand firm, be strong…

And, let your instinct kick in.

Your life is at stake.

Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. Stand firm against him, and be strong in your faith.

1 Peter 5:8-9a
