Finding God on Black Friday

Black Friday.

and God?

On Black Friday, millions of people go shopping.

I know because I was one of them.

And, if any of the millions are like me, they went shopping looking for gifts.

Gifts to give to other people…

Like a friend.

Or a family member.

Or that special someone.

The point is we don’t give gifts to people we don’t care about.

We don’t pick out that perfect present for someone we don’t love.

Especially on Black Friday.

But, we’ll brave the crowds and the hype and the alarm clock to get up at the crack of dawn for someone we love.

We’ll scan the ads, find the best deals, make a list, and go get that perfect gift, because when we give that gift we’re telling our son/daughter/spouse/friend that we love them.

So, think about this…

If humans like us who are broken sinners at the core can go out and brave the crowds to find that perfect gift for the ones we love, how much more will a perfect, all-powerful God do for the ones He loves?

Jesus said it this way…

“You parents—if your children ask for a loaf of bread, do you give them a stone instead? 10 Or if they ask for a fish, do you give them a snake? Of course not! 11 So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him.  (Matthew 7:9-11)

If you’re like me, your list is not done.

So, the next time you’re out shopping for that perfect gift this holiday season, think about all that God has given you.

And then stop and thank Him for it.

Redeem the time…
