You remember the classic scene from the movie “The Princess Bride”…
The one where Westley is “mostly dead” and Miracle Max brings him back to life with a magic pill?
Yeah, that one.
How dead are you?
Seems like an odd question to ask (especially if you’re reading this because that would mean that you must be alive).
But, how dead are you spiritually?
All of us were born with a soul…
That spiritual part of us that makes us humans created in “God’s image.”
So, are we born spiritually alive or dead or somewhere in between?
Are we just “mostly dead” spiritually?
Because if we’re just “mostly dead” all we need is a magic pill.
If we’re just “mostly dead” then that means that there’s something we can do to save ourselves.
Be a good person.
Follow the rules.
The problem is we’re not “mostly dead” spiritual beings when we’re born.
We’re dead dead.
And, there’s only One who can raise the dead.
His name is Jesus.
Stop trying to be good.
Stop following the rules.
Only He can save you.
“Once you were dead because of your disobedience and your many sins. 4 But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, 5 that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!)” (Ephesians 2:1,4-5) (NLT)
