What is love?

what-is-love

The other day, I typed in the word “love” in Google and hit enter…

I got 1.5 billion results in .22 seconds.

Love is…complicated.

Or, maybe it’s just that we’ve made it complicated.

What is love, anyway?

Is it an emotion?

Is it a decision?

Is it an emotional decision?  What is it?

Does love change?

Can you love something one day and not love it the next?

Can you fall in love with someone and then not be in love with them later on?

What makes you love something or someone in the first place?

No wonder there is so much confusion and so many questions about love in this world…

Everybody has their opinions and feelings when it comes to love…but what if there really was only one right answer to all these questions?

That would make things simpler, wouldn’t it?

Or, what if you could find the definition of love in a few short sentences in one book instead of having to read a whole bunch of books to figure it out?

Better yet, what if I told you that you can know the Creator of love Himself, and that the definition of love came from Him?

What is love?

Let me give you a less complicated definition…

4 Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud 5 or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. 6 It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. 7 Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.  (I Corinthians 13:4-7)

God created love…and He is love.  (I John 4:7-8)

So, if you really want to know what love is, get to know God first.

His love lasts forever…it never fails.

All of the other millions of ideas of love that are out there can’t make that promise.

Do you really want to know what love is?

Get to know God…and then love like Him.

This post is dedicated to my wife, who has shown me what God’s love looks like for 19 years.
